Veterans’ Day in the USA

YELL’N SHOUT

11/11/2022

Like most Americans, I am able to sit in the comfort of my own home and do things like write this blog post. That’s because our Vets made sure I could. I always have been, am, and will forever be grateful to those who serve. While I was draft-eligible, my number never came up during the Viet Nam War.

Also like most Americans, I dislike war, but I abide by this simple statement:

“Hate the war, but don’t hate the warrior.”

Our warriors put their lives on the line day in and day out. All they ask in return is a simple nod of appreciation and respect.

Remember that your choice to be red or blue or purple was given to you by the men and women who fought those who would take your choice away from you. And don’t be naïve as to believe there are not people who would take our freedoms away in a heartbeat if they could.

The military-industrial war machine is a fact of life – for now. Hopefully, some day it won’t be. It is truly disgusting that greedy people make huge amounts of money from it, but that’s not the fault of those whose purpose is to make sure we have freedom. That should never keep us from thanking our Vets. There are those among us who would argue that if all the warriors put down their weapons at the same, there would be no war. In the meantime, we have people who defend our democratic rights against enemies foreign and domestic.

In the U.S. we have many different views. But that’s really the point. We have the right to have different views. In many parts of the world having a different view can be a death sentence.

Instead of spending time arguing whether war is right or wrong or necessary, how about just spending a small portion of your time appreciating those who spend a large portion of their time protecting us. Remember, whether you are a liberal or conservative, a Democrat or a Republican, a Progressive or a Maga, you can be those things because people are protecting your right to make those choices.

Veterans’ Day in the USA- alive and hopefully well.
