CLINICAL & SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY

Dr. Andrew Yellen is a licensed psychologist specializing in both clinical and sports psychology. He, along with his wife Heidi, is one of the founding owners of Yellen & Associates Psychological, Educational, Speech & Language Services, a private practice group with two offices in Southern California. Dr. Yellen lectures nationally and internationally on various topics including behavioral management, learning disabilities, and sports psychology. Additionally, Dr. Yellen offers presentations to Industrial and Organizational Psychology Seminars and to hospital staff, insurance companies, and school districts.

Before becoming a clinical and sports psychologist, Dr. Yellen earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from California State University, Northridge in Physical Education and taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District at the high school level for over 19 years. While in public school education, he earned a California Standard Teaching Credential, California Community College Teaching Credential, and a California School Administration Credential. In addition to teaching, he served as the Head Football and Head Swimming Coach at Grant High School in Southern California for 15 years.

Dr. Yellen is a Fellow and Diplomate of Prescribing Psychologists’ Register, The International College of Prescribing Psychologists and the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists. He holds professional memberships in organizations such as the California, Los Angeles County and San Fernando Valley Psychological Associations, National Board of Addiction Examiners, International Irlen Diagnosticians, the National Institute of Sports Professionals and the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sports Psychology. Also, Dr. Yellen holds a Certificate of Proficiency in Substance Abuse and has worked closely with organizations designing crisis and substance abuse intervention models.

Over the years, local radio stations such as KFWB and KRTH interviewed Dr. Yellen. He has appeared locally on CBS, NBC, KTLA, ABC, KCAL, and Fox. NBC Nightly News and Extra have featured Dr. Yellen. He has written numerous articles and been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, The Daily News, and USA Today. Dr. Yellen has lectured at various academic institutions such as CSU, Northridge, UC San Diego, University of La Verne, Loyola Marymount University and Chapman University. He is the author of The Art of Perfect Parenting & Other Absurd Ideas and along with his wife Heidi Yellen, coauthored “Understanding the Learning Disabled Athlete” which is considered a pioneering effort in the field. Along with Illana Katz, he recently coauthored Social Facilitation in Action a widely used program of behavioral intervention for children and adults with autism and related disorders.
