YELL’N SHOUT
11/16/2022
For some unknown reasons there is a faction of society that has chosen to draw battle lines between males and females. They make it seem as if one or the other of the genders is right, whatever that means. You are either for us or against us. Unfortunately, many males and females have bought into this idea. Somehow during this "battle" the idea that being male is the equivalent of a disease was created.
For decades and perhaps millenniums females were treated as second-class citizens. Even today there are parts of the world in which females are treated as property. Women's suffrage is a relatively recent phenomenon. Only the ignorant would argue that equality of gender is not good, and that concept still needs to be spread in parts of the world.
Suddenly, the pendulum swung the other way. The Women's Liberation movement sprouted roots and grew like wildfire. Being male was looked upon as being a disease, the only cure for which was to repent and act like a female. Men were told they had to "get in touch with their feminine side."
Making fun of men is an acceptable practice in advertising, whether it is for beer or in many programs. That's probably because most men don't usually get offended when they are made fun of in a good-natured fashion, and because there is so much to make fun of. There are programs in which women make fun of women, but imagine a program where men make fun of women. Women were even offended when men made fun of men in a cancelled program, "Men Behaving Badly," most likely because it wasn't politically correct. Don't mental health experts profess that the ability to laugh at one's own foibles is quite healthy?
Of this we can be certain, with new technology we can say unequivocally the male and female brains are different... that's different, not that one is disabled. Women laugh that only women can understand women. That's okay because men laugh, too. Women are constantly telling men the female brain, though smaller, is superior, it has more neuronal connections, processes information with both sides better, etc., etc. etc. We've also heard that all human embryos start off as feminine (that's true) and that the testosterone bath, especially on the brain, is responsible for fouling things up, again as if being male is a disease. We have even accepted that "Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus." Men and women are different, and hurray for the difference.
Each of the sexes has specific strengths. Men are physically stronger. Women network better. Men are generally more task-oriented and linear in their thinking. Women are more intuitive due to the ability to use both sides of their brains simultaneously. Men tend to be solutions oriented. Women tend to be feelings oriented. Men tend to be the protectors. Women tend to be the nurturers. The list goes on and on.
Why don't we all accept our differences and utilize our strengths instead of spending our collective energy battling about which is the superior gender.
Yes, the proverbial glass ceiling needs to be removed. Gender equality, especially with pay, is important, but if being male is such a disease, then why are so many women trying to be like men across all avenues of our society. You can't have all the privileges of maleness without the responsibilities. That's not to say women don't have just as many responsibilities in quantity. A woman does not have to be a man to be a woman.
The gender pendulum needs to come back to the middle. We will all benefit.
Oh, and one more thing. I have my fiancee’s permission to say all this.
