What is TRACK? Dr. Janice Schneider created TRACK as an early childhood assessment of the core elements which impact their readiness for elementary school. These elements include a child’s cognitive, emotional and physical development, which each play a role in a child’s ability to succeed in school. The main goal of TRACK is to help prevent children from falling through the cracks of the educational system. In her experience as a clinician, She began to observe that many of her clients did not get the help they needed until they were failing in school. Dr. Schneider realized that early intervention could help prevent children with learning disabilities or other issues, such as Asperger’s, Autism or Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, from repetitive negative experiences in school. The goal of TRACK is to help parents discover how they can help their son or daughter before he or she experiences failure in school and other areas, including at home and with peers. For this reason, Dr. Schneider geared the program towards children under the age of 7. It is the hope that a parent will know their child’s strengths and areas of concern and can communicate with the child’s school about the best ways in which the child can learn. Early intervention is key to helping your child feel successful in school, especially if he or she needs extra attention or help in order to learn effectively. The acronym, TRACK, means the following: Talking How are your child’s communication skills? Is he or she able to communicate and listen at a the level you expect him or her to? Ready for school Does your child seem ready for school? Does he or she show a natural curiosity to learn? Does he or she seem ready to be on their own in school? Achieving milestones Is your child meeting all their developmental milestones? Crawling, walking, talking, toilet-training, interacting with peers? Cognitive Development Do you wonder if your child needs help in the area of academics? Do you wonder if your child is extremely bright?
